Why pets get sick?

Nature built animal bodies to work efficiently. Animals are designed to be in a balanced or homeostatic state. And when you think about it, animals need only a few things…some kind of shelter, food, water, and movement. Our domesticated animals usually have good shelter and water. Foods vary from home to home and unfortunately can contain unhealthy ingredients. Movement in many pet lives, especially dogs, can be severely lacking.

The two things that make animals sick are toxicity &/or deficiency. They can get toxic from poor foods they are fed or lack of movement. They can be toxic from lack of movement (or movement deficiency). Many foods can be deficient in proper vitamins and minerals.

Toxicity and deficiency throw off the homeostatic balance which is necessary for proper cell function. The longer the toxicity &/or deficiency continues, the sicker the cells get, then the sicker organs get, then the sicker the animal gets.

The quicker you make sure your pet is eating well and moving well, the quicker your pet starts to move toward being healthy and moves away from being sick.

Wellness Care… Many clinics/hospitals have been offering wellness care for quite some time, but I often get asked how can you get a pet parent to comply? Good question, tough question.

Above all, don’t try to cram wellness care down a pet parents’ throat if they’re not interested. You will only alienate them. I know it’s great if you can get Fluffy or Fido in for timely checkups, and that repercussions can be that the pet can end up with a premature disease if they aren’t occasionally checked, but not everyone may be able to afford the extra care (yes, disease care is much more expensive than preventative care) or it may be a time issue, or a host of other reasons. As physicians, it’s not about us and our feelings. It’s about giving the pet parent choices and allowing them to choose.

One consideration to help the pet is to provide the best nutrition sources for them. Teach pet parents about good diet (download my in-office workshop). Teach them how the body works and how it responds to quality nutrition. Use the Rx Vitamins for Pets formulas to be like daily wellness care. Use formulas like Rx Hepato Support or Liquid Hepato &/or the Renal Canine/ Renal Feline formulas to occasionally flush out the liver or kidneys and help support organ function. Or the Rx Essentials as a daily vitamin/mineral supplement.

Communication is the key. Keep open lines to the pet parents, give them choices and accept the path they choose for their pets.
